We get asked this question on every single inspection — usually by a homeowner who has watched a neighbor’s azaleas get nuked by a chlorine-based roof cleaning. The short answer: yes, Shingle Hero is safe for pets, kids, and landscaping when applied by a certified crew. Here’s the longer answer.
The formula itself
Shingle Hero is 95% plant-based, derived primarily from soy. It carries no harsh solvents, no bleach, and no chlorine. The remaining 5% is an adjuvant blend that helps the plant-based actives penetrate into aged asphalt.
Plant Hero — the landscape shield
Before a single drop of rejuvenation hits your roof, we apply Plant Hero to every shrub, flower bed, tree, and ground cover within overspray range. It’s a water-soluble protective coating that acts as a physical barrier, catching any drift and rinsing away clean.
- Applied to all plants within 10 feet of the roof line
- Completely water-soluble and biodegradable
- Rinses off with a standard garden hose after the job
- Included free on every rejuvenation — not an upcharge
Neutralite — the cleanup layer
After the application, we use our proprietary Neutralite cleaner to neutralize any residue and ensure runoff is pH-balanced before it reaches soil or storm drains. Zero-chlorine by design.
What to do on job day
- 1Move cars out of the driveway
- 2Keep pets indoors during application (3–4 hour window)
- 3Water your landscaping in the morning before we arrive
- 4Close windows on treatment side of the house
- 5Walk the finished job with the tech before they leave
What cheap chlorine cleanings do — and why we don’t
The industry standard for roof cleaning is a chlorine-bleach mix sprayed under pressure. It works on algae. It also kills your landscaping, strips shingle granules, corrodes metal flashing, and shortens roof life. It’s a shortcut, and Shingle Hero won’t do it. Every job uses Neutralite and Plant Hero instead.
Ask us anything about the formula, the application, or the landscape protection process. We’re happy to walk through it before you book.
