Before, during and after a Shingle Hero roof treatment

Living in Tampa Bay means dealing with intense sun, heavy rain, and high humidity. These weather conditions take a toll on asphalt shingles. Over time, the oils that keep shingles flexible evaporate. The granules that protect against UV rays wash away. This process is called aging. When your roof ages, homeowners often face a difficult decision. Do you replace the entire roof or try to rejuvenate it?

At Shingle Hero, we help Tampa Bay residents make this choice with clarity. We have completed over 1,000 roof rejuvenations since 2018. Our goal is to extend the life of your roof if it is a good candidate. We do not push for a replacement if rejuvenation is the better option. We also do not push for rejuvenation if your roof is too damaged. We assess first and tell you if it qualifies.

Understanding Asphalt Shingle Aging

Asphalt shingles are made of a fiberglass mat coated with asphalt and covered with ceramic granules. The asphalt acts as a waterproof barrier and provides flexibility. The granules reflect sunlight and protect the asphalt from UV damage. In Florida, the sun is powerful. It dries out the asphalt quickly. Rain and wind remove the granules.

When the asphalt dries out, the shingles become brittle. They may curl or crack. When granules are lost, the underlying asphalt is exposed to the sun. This accelerates the aging process. A roof that has lost more than 20 percent of its granules or has extensive physical damage is usually not a candidate for rejuvenation. In these cases, replacement is the only safe option.

What Is Roof Rejuvenation?

Roof rejuvenation is a treatment for aging asphalt shingles. It uses a plant-based, soy-derived formula. This treatment penetrates the shingles to restore the lost oils. It does not add a new layer of material. It does not require a tear-off. The process is clean and efficient.

The treatment helps restore flexibility to the shingles. It can help stop minor cracking and curling. It also helps protect the remaining granules. Every job includes a written 5-year transferable warranty. Qualifying treated roofs also get an extra 5 years of roof life (not roofs with more than 20% granule loss or extensive damage), and we provide a certified life letter. You can give this letter to your insurer. Please note that we never promise insurer acceptance. Insurance companies have their own policies regarding roof age and condition.

Signs Your Roof Needs Replacement

Some roofs are simply too far gone for rejuvenation. If your roof has failed, rejuvenation will not fix leaks. It is not a repair service for active water intrusion. You should consider replacement if you see these signs:

  • Extensive Granule Loss: If your gutters are full of granules or your roof looks bald, the protective layer is gone. Roofs with more than 20 percent granule loss do not qualify for rejuvenation.
  • Curling or Cupping Shingles: If shingles are curled up at the edges or cupped in the middle, they are brittle. This indicates severe drying.
  • Cracked or Broken Shingles: Physical damage from storms or age cannot be reversed by oil restoration.
  • Leaks: If water is entering your home, the roof system has failed. Rejuvenation does not fix leaks. You need a roofer to repair or replace the damaged sections.

We partner with local roofers for repairs. If your roof needs repair before or instead of rejuvenation, we can help coordinate that.

Signs Your Roof May Qualify for Rejuvenation

Rejuvenation works best on roofs that are aging but still structurally sound. The shingles should be intact. They should not have major cracks or missing pieces. The roof should be between 10 and 20 years old on average, though age is not the only factor. The key is the condition of the asphalt.

If your roof looks dull and dry but has no holes or leaks, it might be a good candidate. The treatment restores the oils that keep the shingles waterproof and flexible. This can prevent future cracking and extend the service life of the roof.

The Shingle Hero Assessment Process

We believe in transparency. We offer a free roof check to every homeowner. During this check, our team inspects your roof closely. We look for granule loss, shingle condition, and signs of damage. We assess first and will tell you if it does not qualify.

If your roof qualifies, we explain the benefits. We provide a one-day job timeline. There is no tear-off required. The process is quick and minimally invasive. If your roof does not qualify, we will tell you a written yes or no. We will explain why it is not a good fit. We will also suggest next steps, such as repair or replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does roof rejuvenation fix leaks?

No. Roof rejuvenation restores oils to aging shingles. It does not fix leaks or failed roofs. If you have active leaks, you need roof repair or replacement. We can partner with roofers to handle those repairs.

How long does the rejuvenation process take?

The job is completed in one day. There is no tear-off required. We apply the plant-based treatment directly to the existing shingles. The process is fast and causes minimal disruption to your home.

Will my insurance company accept the certified life letter?

We provide a certified life letter for qualifying treated roofs. You can give this letter to your insurer. However, we never promise insurer acceptance. Insurance companies have their own guidelines and may not accept the letter. It is best to check with your provider directly.
